DANVILLE, Ky. - Two Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership staff members graduated from the 29th Annual Kentucky Institute for Economic Development course on Aug. 21, 2014.

Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jennifer Kirchner, left, and Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership Communications Director Kasey Hill graduated from the Kentucky Institute for Economic Development course on Aug. 21.

Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jennifer Kirchner and EDP Communications Director Kasey Hill completed the four-day course, which offers intensive training in the basic principals of economic development.

The course - held in Lexington, Ky. - is directed by the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business & Economics Executive Education Center and is accredited by the International Economic Development Council. It is designed to equip participants with the tools necessary to compete aggressively and successfully for new development in their communities.

"In my role as director of the CVB, I have completed further education in marketing and advertising; and now, deepening my understanding of economic development positions to me to be a great asset to our community," Kirchner said. "I intend to encourage sustainable development and positive branding and messaging, while helping to increase tax revenues and adding to the quality of life for our citizens. My knowledge base feels much more complete."

Kirchner and Hill completed 26 hours of comprehensive training in areas such as current and future trends in economic development, strategic planning, business retention and expansion strategies, workforce development, marketing, small business development and entrepreneurship, and more.

"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to attend KIED," said Hill. "By participating in this course, I better understand the goals and challenges inherent in economic development. It has provided me with specific, practical knowledge which is useful in my current capacity supporting the EDP."

EDP President and CEO Jody Lassiter completed the KIED course in 2005, and then went on to graduate from Oklahoma University's Economic Development Institute in 2008. Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Paula Fowler also graduated from KIED in 2011.

"Effective professionals keep their knowledge fresh and skills sharp with continuing education," Lassiter said. "The EDP is committed to keeping our team of professionals at the top of their game with training opportunities."
