Contemporary quilts features the extraordinary work of the best quilters in the region. The exhibit showcases nearly 50 art quilts that bring a fresh perspective to the traditional art form of quilting. The design of traditional quilts revolves around the repetition of patterns. Individual, pieced blocks are assembled into patterns, often with familiar names like "flying geese" or "log cabin". The artists featured in this show instead focused their designs on color, texture and narrative, using their quilts to tell stories, explore color relationships, and add dimension to what is traditionally a two-dimensional art form.
